Dadant Standart hive box from Stehr
The Stehr Dadant Standart (US) frame box for 6 Dadant honeycomb frames with a 482 mm long top bar and 285 mm frame height measures 53.5 x 28.5 x 39 cm. It is made of hard foam (normal polystyrene) and is ideal for multiplying colonies and transporting offshoots. This honeycomb size became known through Brother Adam with the Buckfast bees and is mainly used by beekeepers who bee with an undivided brood chamber.
The hive box has a 60 x 340 mm ventilation grille with a mesh size of less than 2.9 mm glued into the bottom and a lid. The lid is secured against slipping by a rebate and thus offers particular safety when transporting the bees. A slider made of hard foam can be turned through 180° and used both as an approach board and as a flight hole closure. This slider is designed so that it disappears into the bottom of the feeder box during transportation. Cast-on feet at the back and front as a support bar (approx. 2.5 cm high and 6 cm wide) ensure that this box stands firmly and is well ventilated, even during long journeys. Many customers have tested the transportability of the propagator box over long distances and the propagator box has proven to be very suitable for transporting, forming and overwintering propagators.
The hive box can hold 6 frames with a comb spacing of 35 mm. When using small-cell bees with a comb spacing of 32 mm, 7 frames fit into the box.
Before use, it is recommended to paint the box with a solvent-free paint.
