Hive bottom for the combi hive system.
In Germany, the German standard size is the most widely used comb size. Working with a double brood chamber increases the workload considerably. The development in beekeeping is clearly moving towards large combs with only one brood chamber and the operating method with an adapted brood chamber (pressing method). In summer, the bee colonies sit in the brood chamber with the comb size Datand on 6-8 combs. Since a comb with a cell size of 4.9 mm has around 10,000 cells, that is over 60,000 cells. A queen bee produces approx. 3000 eggs per day x 21 days (development time from egg to hatching of the bee) that is 63,000 occupied cells. As a stock beekeeper, however, I have the problem of bringing my bee colonies to the new comb size. With the Combi hive system from Stehr this is no problem, frames can be supplied for almost any comb size.
